You may have questions about the Accuplacer Exam is and who should take it.

Here is some Q & A reference information that will address those questions:


​​​​What is the Accuplacer?

The Accuplacer Test is one of the tools that Utah Valley University uses to place students in the best writing and math course for their ability. It is also required for sophomore students wanting to access any concurrent enrollment classes.


Do I need to take the Accuplacer?

-All Sophomore students need an Accuplacer score in order to complete the 'Sophomore by Exception packet'

which is required to register for concurrent enrollment or live interactive courses.

In order to register for your first writing and math courses at UVU (that includes Ed-net and concurrent enrollment courses), you will need either:

-An ACT score of 19 to enroll in English 1010, 19 to enroll in Math 1010, or 23 to enroll in Math 1050 or higher.

-Transfer credit for college level Math and/or English

-Or, an Accuplacer score that qualifies to enroll


How do I take the Accuplacer?

 -Exam is taken at UVU. Tests are offered Monday - Saturday
-Students must register in advance at UVU and provide their a UVU id number

What does the Accuplacer test?

-It is an adaptive test that covers reading, mathematics, writing and language use skills.

-All questions are multiple choice, with the exception of one essay.


Should I study for the Accuplacer?

-Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!! Getting the best score possible can save you A LOT of time and money

Testing Time

-The multiple-choice tests are untimed.  Most students finish under 2 hours.

-Relax! The Accuplacer is designed to help you succeed in college. Your score helps you and your advisor determine which courses are most appropriate for your current level of knowledge and skill.

-Eat well, be rested, study and pay attention to test directions.
