Congratulations to Mr. Rick Lunt

Congratulations to Mr. Rick Lunt

Congratulations to Rick Lunt, ALA’s September Teacher of the Month. We asked Mr. Lunt a few questions to get to know him better.

How long have you been working at ALA?
This is my 13th year at ALA. This is my 25th year of teaching.

Where did you go to college?
I received my Associates Degree in Thatcher, AZ at Eastern Arizona College. My Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University and my Masters in Choral Music Education from Brigham Young University.

What are your hobbies?
One of my favorite hobbies is gardening and yard work. Another hobby I enjoy doing is show design and show choir productions. I love the process of dreaming up a show concept, collaborating with my team to conceptualize it to the point it is detailed on paper, arrangers compose the dream, choreographers add the visual effects, costumes designed and sewn or purchased, set design, etc. I love the creation process.

Tell us about your family?
Melissa and I met in college in a choir program. I proposed to her in front of an audience of 1000 people at the Christmas Concert. We were blessed to have three children who all graduated from ALA. Kaitlyn, Krissy, and Kavin all enjoyed the benefits of participating in so many programs here at ALA from Fine Arts, sports, clubs, core classes, and have been influenced by so many faculty members.

As of last week, we have become empty nesters and it is a whole new world. Krissy married Jaron Allred, also an ALA Alumni, Kaitlyn graduated from BYU and spent the summer in Texas doing summer sales. Kavin graduated from ALA and received his Associates degree from UVU and is currently serving a mission in Louisville, Kentucky. All three kids chose to serve a mission and have each been a big support to each other.

What do you love about ALA?
I love that ALA is a small school which affords many opportunities for students. I graduated from a very small school in southern Arizona and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I enjoy working in the Fine Arts where I rub shoulders with some of the best creators, teachers, and friends. We have been able to dream up a variety of shows over the past 13 years that have enriched both students and community.

I love working with the students and seeing them grow from 5th graders on up to Seniors. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a small influence to those around me. The students I get the privilege of teaching have ended up being my greatest teacher and influence. They keep me young and on my toes. I am proud to be a teacher among so many great staff members here at ALA.

Thank you Mr. Lunt for all your hard work and dedication.–
