Ballroom

This course offers instruction and practice in the basic social dance steps, rhythms, and techniques. The following dances may be included; foxtrot, cha-cha, waltz, swing, mambo, western swing, and western line dance. Ballroom dancing is something that allows for students to learn great posture, learn rhythm and balance, and learn etiquette through dance moves and interaction with some one of the opposite sex. Basic ballroom elements would include the following: posture, dance positions, line of dance, basic cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso doble and jive figures, basic waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, and quickstep figures. Dynamics—time, weight, flow and space, impulse vs. impact, history of all ballroom dancing. Position of arms, feet, and legs. Flexibility, turns, extensions, shoes, turnout, and chakras.
