Important Information Regarding Tardies
Dear Parents, Teachers, and Students,
Please be advised that the American Leadership Academy school board recently affirmed the importance of attendance in class. Absenteeism and Tardiness have a major impact on student learning.
1. Students that are frequently late for class have lower GPAs, lower scores on standardized assessments, and miss key instructions that are necessary for student’s success.
2. Students that are consistently tardy create classroom disruptions that impair the learning of every student in the class, and often require the teacher to restructure their lessons or re-teach missed material.
3. Students that are chronically tardy may impose additional financial obligations for the school stealing vital resources from the classroom.
For these reasons the Board of Trustees voted to implement a policy to support students arriving to class on time and prepared. Students that have good attendance will be eligible for recognition and rewards and students that accrue more than 10 tardies in a term, they will be charged $1.00 for every additional tardy. For example, if a student received 26 tardies in term 1, a fee of $16.00 will be placed on that student’s account.
In order to avoid being charged for tardies, we are strongly encouraging our students to get to class on time. If a student would like to make up tardies to avoid being charged, we have offered the option for students to attend lunch detention or Friday school. Every lunch detention served will eliminate 2 tardies. Every hour served in Friday school, will eliminate 4 tardies.
Please refer to Powerschool to determine how many tardies your student(s) has accumulated. If you have questions or concerns, please contact ALA administration or ALA’s attendance secretary, Cheyenne Sheldon firstname.lastname@example.org.
