About Mrs. Barragan
My name is Amalia Barragán. I was born and raised in a small town in the state of México named San Juan Tehuixtitlan, really close to the famous volcanoes Popocateptl and Iztacihuatl. When I got married I moved to a nearby town named Tecalco in the same state of México.
I have three children, Diana Karina, Miguel Omar and Jaime Benjamin. My husband is Jaime Rivera. In 2016 we moved to the beautiful state of Utah and this has been a one of the most fascinating adventures or experiences of our lives. I love to see it snow, the beautiful tulips in the Spring and the marvelous colors of Fall, but I don’t like the heat of Summer. I love to cook traditional Mexican dishes and spend time with my family. I love to do Zumba workouts and decorate my home for the different holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas.
My Bachelor’s degree is in preschool education and my Master’s degree is in teaching. All of my professional work has been in teaching. I have taught at the preschool, elementary, high school and university levels. I love being a teacher because it allows me to be among the most genuine beings in this life, children. I see a great responsibility when I teach. One of my favorite sayings is: “I can’t teach anything to anyone, I can only make them think.”
