About Mrs. Wyckhuyse
I feel blessed to be the wife of a wonderful man (and rock star guitarist), the mother of seven daughters, and grandmother to 20 fun and amazing grandchildren ranging in age from 4 months to 16 years. I’ve lived in New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, and have lived in Utah for the past 11 years.
I started taking college classes when our youngest daughter went to Kindergarten. It only took me until she was in the 9th grade to finish my degree and begin my first teaching job. I received an Associate in Arts from Moorpark College, a Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in Literature from Brigham Young University, and a Master of Education with an emphasis in Teaching from California Lutheran University.
Though I have taught ages 18 months through 18 years in church settings for most of my adult life, it was volunteering in my daughter’s 1st grade class where I first experienced the energy and excitement of formal classroom learning. That was the impetus for my journey to formal classroom teaching. I have taught in junior high and high school settings for 14 years and have taught every grade from 7-12. My goal as a teacher is to gain student trust while guiding them to become lifelong readers and deep thinkers. I also strive to help them communicate clearly through their writing. I love to read and write which is what directed my educational path.
My hobbies include reading (of course), sewing - anything from clothing and costumes to formal dresses and wedding gowns, quilting, music, fitness activities, and hanging out with my husband’s band, “Route 89.” I also enjoy travel, but most of that is limited to visiting my daughters and their families around the country.
I love the opportunity to teach here at American Leadership Academy and look forward to many more years as an Eagle!
