About Mrs. Coatney

I was born in Washington and lived there most of my life. After living in Switzerland as a missionary for 18 months, earning my degree in Math Education from BYU-Idaho, and teaching for my first year in Arizona, I returned with my husband to Washington and lived there until the summer of 2020 when we moved to Utah. I love the pacific northwest, but we have had some great adventures in Utah already. I have two children (ages 8 and 3). We love spending time together, and especially going to the National Parks. We have been to 16 together so far.

I have loved my 10 years teaching math, especially the last two years at ALA. I have taught middle school, high school, and college classes online for BYU-Idaho. I have also worked as a tutor. I love making connections with people of all ages and learning how they see and experience the world- and the world of math. As a math teacher, I love to hear how students think about and approach problems. I get really excited about a new way of seeing something that I haven't thought of before! I hope to share that joy with my students as we experience math together. I'm excited to work with students this year at ALA.
