About Mr. Carpenter

Since 2015, I have called Springville home.  My wife, 5 kids, pet snake, and I moved to the area from Cedar City where I was attending SUU for my education degree.  As a "military brat" growing up, I have always loved Cedar City and consider it home base, returning there often to visit and live.  I even met my wife there and started a family together before moving to Salt Lake City to pursue my first degree in Architecture.

After completing my Bachelors of Architectural Studies from the University of Utah in 2005, I found a job in Phoenix, Arizona.  We lived down there until the housing market crash of 2008 eliminated most of the building jobs in the area, including mine.  However, it was this event that got me into teaching.  Between being a seasonal Test Driver for VW, I became a Substitute Teacher for the Maricopa school district while looking for another job in architecture.  This experience gave me the idea to pursue an educational degree when it became clear that the market was not going to bounce right back.  So we moved back to Utah, went back to school, and earned my Elementary Education Degree from SUU in 2015.

I started teaching here at ALA in 2016.  I taught 6th Grade my first year, and was lucky enough to transfer into 7th and 8th Grade Math the following school year.  I have always loved math, and am thrilled when I can help my students learn to love it too.
