5th Grade Dual Immersion Teacher ( Spanish Speaking)
About the Dual Immersion Program
ALA is proud to offer a Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program. Our goal is to foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence. In this role, you will be the Spanish-speaking partner in a 50/50 model, where students spend half their day learning in English and the other half immersed in Spanish, focusing on academic rigor and advanced language proficiency.
Location: Spanish Fork, UT
Schedule: Monday – Thursday (4-Day School Week) Every other Friday for TDD
Status: Full Time
About the Role: We are seeking a fluent Spanish speaker who is passionate about upper elementary education and advanced language acquisition. As a 5th Grade DLI Teacher, you will guide students as they transition toward middle school, teaching core subjects—including Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science—entirely in Spanish. You will use specialized instructional strategies to ensure students master complex academic concepts while refining their Spanish fluency.
Key Responsibilities
-
Target Language Immersion: Provide 100% of instruction in Spanish using gestures, visuals, and modeling to facilitate comprehension. Early Literacy: Teach foundational Spanish literacy skills (phonics, decoding, and fluency) to young learners. Partner Collaboration: Work in close tandem with your English-speaking partner teacher to coordinate lesson plans, bridge concepts, and monitor student behavior. Cultural Enrichment: Integrate Hispanic culture, traditions, and music into the curriculum to broaden students’ global perspectives. Classroom Management: Maintain a high-energy, structured Kindergarten environment that emphasizes the “RISE UP” values (Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, Unity, Patriotism). Family Engagement: Help bridge the gap for non-Spanish-speaking parents by providing resources to support their child’s language journey at home.
-
Daily Workflow In this 50/50 model, your day will typically look like this: Morning Block: You teach Math and Science in Spanish to Group A, while your partner teaches Literacy in English to Group B. Mid-Day: Students switch classrooms. Afternoon Block: You repeat your Math and Science lessons in Spanish for Group B, while your partner teaches Literacy to Group A. Why Join the ALA DLI Team? Specialized Focus: Instead of managing every subject, you become an expert in delivering STEM and Math content through a linguistic lens. Collaborative Support: Work with a dedicated partner teacher to share the workload of student grading, parent communication, and classroom management. URS Benefits: Full participation in the Utah State Retirement system.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
Licensure: Valid Utah Teaching License (or eligibility to obtain one) with a World Language Endorsement or Dual Immersion Endorsement.
Pathways: Candidates may qualify via an Associate Educator License (AEL) if they possess significant industry expertise in the preferred subject areas listed above.
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing).
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-teaching environment.
Strong understanding of 5th-grade core standards and upper elementary child development.
