The ACT test is a curriculum-based education and career planning tool for high school students that assesses the mastery of college readiness standards. Academic skills are assessed in English, Reading, Mathematics and Science Reasoning.

The ACT is required for admissions at most college and universities in the state of Utah, as well as out of state institutions. Many merit based scholarships require ACT scores for eligibility.

The ACT is offered to all students in their junior year at no cost. Test date is usually the first week in March.
Most students who take the ACT an additional time see an increased score.

Senior students who require scores for college admission and/or scholarships should take the exam early in the fall in order to receive scores in time.

College & Career Readiness Program

ALA is invested in ensuring our students graduate ‘College and Career Ready.’ Every year secondary students will be provided an opportunity to create and update their own personal ‘Plan for College and Career Readiness” PCCR.

Plans will include a 4-6 year course planning guide to graduation, information regarding early college opportunities such as concurrent enrollment, UVU live interactive courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, Mountainland Applied Technical College, etc. Students will set goals for college and career options based on individual student interest and skills, and learn about available scholarships and financial aid to help pay for college. As part of the annual college and career ready process, counselors will also deliver career exploration/ development lessons to students in their classrooms.

Plan for College & Career Readiness

Beginning in 8th grade, all students will have access to an Plan for College and Career Readiness. PCCR Documents are available via Google sheets and will be shared to all students using their individual ALA email address. Plan is also available to parents who possess a Google account. This allows for students and parents to have easy access to their plan, as well as a smooth transition as they advance grade levels and are assigned a new counselor.
