ALA GRADUATE REQUIREMENTS


ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS – 4.0 credits required

(1.0 credit) English/Language Arts 9 or English/Language Arts 9 Honors

(1.0 credit) English/Language Arts 10 or English/Language Arts 10 Honors

(1.0 credit) English/Language Arts 11, English/Language Arts Honors or AP English Language & Composition

(1.0 credit) English 12, English 1010, English 1010 YR, English 2010, Creative Writing 12, Humanities 1010, Foundational Shakespeare, World Language AP (see counseling for a complete list of course offerings)


SOCIAL STUDIES – 3.0 credits required

(.50 credit) Geography for Life

(1.0 credit) U.S. History II or American Civilization History 1700 CE

(1.0 credit) World Civilizations

(.50 credit) U.S. Government and Citizenship 12 or Political Science 1100 CE


SCIENCE – 3.0 credits required

A total of 2.0 credits from two of the four science foundation areas: Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics plus 1.0 credit from the foundation course list or applied  and advanced course list.

Suggested Sequences:

(1.0 credit) Earth Systems in 9th grade or Biology (Biology if college bound)

(1.0 credit) Biology or Chemistry in 10th grade (Chemistry if college bound)

(1.0 credit) Chemistry or Physics in 11th grade (Physics for STEM majors) or Animal Science, Medical Anatomy and Physiology (for Health Science majors), Zoology/Botany A&B, ASTR 1040, GEO 1010, METO 1010,  PHYS 1010,  BIOL 1010. or PHSC 1000 (see counseling for a complete list of course offerings)


MATH – 4.0 credits required

All ALA students are required to be enrolled in a math course 9th-12th Math Core

(1.0 credit) Secondary Math I in 9th grade

(1.0 credit) Secondary Math II 10th grade

(1.0 credit) Secondary Math III in 11th grade

 

12th grade math class is required, students will select one or more course(s)​ from the list below:

Math 1010 CE  (Suggested for students who cannot place directly into Math 1050 after completion of Secondary Math III/prerequisite for Math 1050)                           

Math 1030 CE  (Suggested for English and Fine Arts majors)

Math 1040 CE  (Suggested for Nursing, Psychology and Criminal Justice Majors)

Math 1050 CE  (Suggested for STEM, Pre-Med, Architecture, Computer Science, Business, and Education majors)

Math 1060 CE  (Suggested for STEM, Pre-Med, Architecture, and Computer Science)                                                                           

AP Statistics (Suggested for Nursing, Psychology and Criminal Justice Majors)

AP Calculus (Suggested for STEM, Pre-Med, Architecture, Computer Science and Business majors)

Accounting 1 & 2 (Both Accounting classes must be taken)

Mathematics of Personal Finance


PHYSICAL & HEALTH EDUCATION – 2.0 credits required

(2) credits (all P.E. classes are .50 credits)

(.50 credit) Participation Skills in 9th grade

(.50 credit) Fitness for Life in 10th grade

(.50 credit) Health in 10th grade

(.50 credit) Lifetime Activities in 11th grade (or two seasons of UHSAA recognized sports during High School including cheer/drill)

28.0 Total Credits for ALA Graduation, based on 9th-12th grade requirements.

Note: Characteristics of a rigorous high school education include 2 years of the same foreign language, AP, Concurrent Enrollment or Live Interactive classes.

Additional: Many colleges and universities have a minimum GPA requirement; encourage student participation in school based activities, clubs, community/volunteer work, leadership opportunities and appropriate ACT or SAT scores.
